Making it on Broadway

New York City Bartenders & Patrons Photo

Today is the last gallery -- for awhile -- of old pix. These here from Yogi's will mark the last batch of old stuff to go back up, because I have new ones from Erik coming in. These 50 from 2003 are from the dive bar on Broadway we all love, even if the smell can get to you. I mean, how can you go wrong? All of the bartenders here have checked out of the place: Timmy, Steph, Jules, Rebecca...

If you want to submit your pix to nycbp.com, drop me a line.

Yes, I Miss the Idiot

We are coming up on the second anniversary of The Village Idiot shutting down. Hard to believe, isn't it? From the email I get, I can tell that nobody has ever really gotten over it. So that is why I am continuing to drip out 50 more photos at a time of the dump.

Was it the smell? The cheap drinks? The hot bartenders? You tell me. Post a comment below.

Doc's Turns 12

Doc Holliday's Bartender
I feel like a bad boyfriend who has stayed away too long. I have not been to Doc Holliday's since George W. Bush's first administration. I feel rotten about it. But I really really wish I could be there this weekend, for their 12th anniversary party.

Joanna, who is so incredible, amazing, and talented, sent out the info for the big bash:

"This Saturday Night, April 8th (8pm on), Doc's is celebrating 12th Year Anniversary. Also, Joanna's anniversary, as she has been there since Day #1.

Specials Include:
$10 budlight pitchers
$4 pints of snakebites
$3 budlight pints
$3 shot of the night
$2 cans of Natty Lite, Busch and PBR

You will receive a raffle ticket with your drink purchases, and starting at 11pm, there will be a prize given out once an hour. Grand Prize is a $100 bar tab! We also have alot of free stuff to give out too! Like t-shirts and other cool booze related items! Li and Joanna will be serving the drinks, and Francine will be tending to your needs at the tables. All of our staff will be making an appearance...so it may be your chance to hang out with the Doc's girls drinking on your side of the bar."
Joanna
Jo has a great page on Myspace and so does the bar.

Be a good customer and go there and party like it is 1994!

Guest Bartender Alert

Mo the Guest Bartender
I am giving you the heads-up on a guest bartender Thursday night, April 6 at the Black Finn, 218 E. 53rd (btwn 2nd & 3rd) at 9 pm. This is my cousin, Mo.

She has NO bartending experience. All she has are her good looks, which runs in the family, of course. This will be her first guest bartending gig. So expect stiff drinks, lots of spillage, and if you ask for something crazy, she will probably not know how to mix it. But tip her well, which is why she's doing this, of course.

My only expert advice was to wear as little clothing as possible (I am her cousin, so I can say that), but she probably will not listen to me. Mo is cool as hell, and you will have a good time if she's working. So show up, watch the Yanks game, and don't forget to tip. She's working with her friend, who is also gorgeous...

Something I found from Clay

Jenn of Yogi's with Clay Water
The "other" Clay is Clay Waters (and not Clay Enos). And he only like three bartenders in town: Carmit, Jenn and Jules. I recently found this from last fall when he emailed it to me -- this is Jenn from Yogi's. She works Friday nights.

Why not throw it up? It is probably the greatest photo ever taken of yourself with a bartender attached to you... be sure to visit his site for more pix.

Amanda Spotted at Woody McHale's

I have always been a fan of Amanda, no matter where she worked. She is like the ultimate daytime bartender. She left town for a spell after working at Red Rock West. And now I got an email from her new boss. Check this out:

I am a long time reader and fan of NYCBP, and wanted to touch base with you about one of my new bartenders who most of your readers are familiar with; Amanda L., formerly of The Village Idiot, Red Rock, Yogi's, and the Patriot. Amanda recently started working for me Monday-Friday, days, doing Happy Hour, at our newest place Woody Mchale's. Woody McHale's is a block from the old Idiot, 234 W. 14th (btwn 7th & 8th). My partner and I also own Franks Steakhouse.

Glad to see you guys back up and running - keep up the good work.

Best,
Douglas Sokoloff

That is great news. Amanda is a terrific bartender. You should go and see her after work sometime, she will treat you right.

Any good Amanda stories?

New Nice Guy Eddie's

I forgot to tell you guys that Nice Guy Eddie's opened a new location, in Harlem. You read that right. Nick, one of the owners, told me the other night. It is on Second Avenue, but I forgot to write down the exact address. The manager is Runner, who you may know, he's the guy from the original Eddie's.

It is always good to hear about new bars opening up, especially when it by friends of ours. Nick still has his hand in The Library Bar still.

Since the message boards are still f-cked up, I am just going to keep adding pix from Erik's collection. He has sent me hundreds and hundreds of CDs (no joke) and I have only posted a fraction of them.

So here are some more of Coyote Ugly: Maria, Tella, Courtney, a few others, from a couple years ago. Why Coyote? Because I like the drinks? No, something more important: I like the traffic!

This is Courtney, who went from customer to bartender. I don't remember much about her stint on First Avenue, except that she was great at hustling shots and taking her shirt off.
