New York City Bartenders & Patrons is devoted to bartenders, not just bars. So if you love a bar and wonder why it's not on the site, maybe it is because of who works there, not what the bar is about.
Since the site was founded in November 1998, more than 500 bartenders have been on it. Many only passed through the barscene for a few months; others were slinging drinks for years. Yes, most of the bartenders on nycbp.com are female (about 98%). But this is because we enjoy drinking with the fairer sex more often than not. If you prefer male bartenders, please launch your own site (we will be happy to link to you).
This site isn't a guide to ALL bartenders in NYC, just the ones we like the most. Some of the bars that we like, you'll hate. But these bartenders are among the best in NYC. (Why isn't Hogs on the list? Because we hate the place).
A common question is, 'How does a bartender make it on nycbp.com?'
To answer that, let's apply the rules of what we're looking for in bartenders: service, attitude and friendliness. Looks also play a factor; we're not going to lie about that. But the very best bartenders transcend what they're wearing and where they work.
It doesn't matter if it's a swanky lounge in the East Fifties or a beer and whiskey joint in Hell's Kitchen; if the bartender gets the order right and manages a smile, bang, instantly we like that.
These are the best bartenders who have made it onto the site since it was undertaken in 1998. Enjoy yourself. If you meet any of them in your travels across New York, be sure to mention you found out about them on nycbp.com.
We love all bartenders and celebrate them here. This is the only place on the Web where we show you the potential that awaits you when it is decided to test that liver in glorious New York City. In New York, one needs some direction. Magazines can't be trusted, the reviewers rarely spend any time doing research. We do. Since 1998, a band of brothers has been on patrol, seeking out new faces in New York.
As they say in Ireland, there are no strangers, only friends we have not met yet. So meet our favorite people.

If you happen to be in the East Village, a trip to Doc's is not to be missed. Among the best country jukeboxes in the city as well.

Coyote Ugly
Please, please, please do not bring up either the movie or the TV series. The bartenders of Coyote Ugly should be judged on their own merits, and not be compared to anything on the big or small screen. Long story short: Liliana Lovell and her management won't hire second-rate bartenders. Go here and expect to leave with a smile on your face.

The Library
You will always find great bartenders in this East Village institution. It must be said that The Library has always found terrific women to work behind the bar. The customers are a cross-section of New York, and it is always an interesting mix of patrons. An excellent modern rock jukebox too.

Nice Guy Eddie's
Not the first bar to be named after a fictional character, but among the most original. Perched on the corner of Avenue A and Houston, the bartenders here are super professionals who always make you have a great time. A visit here is a visit to a place that is part sports dive, part East Village freakshow. Don't miss this place.

The Patriot
One of the true country dives in lower Manhattan, the bartenders at The Patriot sling cheap shots and dirt-cheap beer. There are two bars; downstairs is mild, upstairs is wild. If you spend much time in THe Patriot, you will leave in a fog. The owner is Tom McNeil, one of the top saloonkeepers in town.
